S*Ma'ha Gita is a small cattery situated in the middle of Sweden, about 200 kilometres north-west of Stockholm. We live in a small town named Borlänge in a house of our own with our 12 cats. One Norwegian Forest cat and eleven Birmans. We have two children but they have left "the nest" and built their own lifes.

Why did we chose the name Ma'ha Gita? We simply just find it beautiful and it's also a historical name from the geographical area where the Birmans is said to come from. Ma'ha Gita is the title of a ancient history book from Siam.

The family consists of me, Lisa, and my husband Ulf. I am a teacher in Math and Science and English (believe it or not!) and I have only adult students. Ulf works as a headmaster in our community, Borlänge.

The cats live with us in the house and they have access to a large out door run connected to the house. Our goal is to breed big, wellboned cats with heartshaped head, deep-blue eyes and a very good temper. Hopefully we will come a little bit towards our goals.

The first cat came into our house back in 199, and it was a Norwegian Forest Cat named Bisse. We realised that living with cats were enriching and one cat was really too few...
Our daughter had seen a lovely blue-eyed cat with dark face and we started looking around for breeders. We found out that this blue-eyed cat was a sacred Birman and realised it was OUR cat.

Our first Birman arrived, S*Grazette's Jumping Jack. He was/is a chocolate pointed male and we thought he looked quite nice. He is retired today after a long and sucsessful career as show cat and also as a stud. He ended up as European Premier and European Champion and lives happily today with his granddaughter, IC Skogshöjdens Umber Pearl, in our daughter's home. So, indeed, he was "quite nice"!

The number of cats has grown since those days and we have today 10 cats, one Norwegian and nine Birmans. Our old Bisse is still living and consider himself to be the King of the house though there are some Birman females with a lot of self confidence around him.

We had our first litter in 1995, S*Grazette's SOS delivered six kittens and was a superb mother. Two of the kittens, lilac Alyzza and Aristocat moved to Norway and have done very well there. The next litter was also six!! and Dam was S*Grazette's UFO and we kept a chocolate pointed girl. She had too much white but was adorable in type and temper.
We have so far had 25 litters with mostly lovely pets and some which had been seen on the show benches.

We have tried to find new lines of Birmans for our breeding, in hope to have interesting and good pedigrees for the future. In our aim to acchive this, we were 1996 lucky to buy a Birman female from Smokeyhill Cattery in England and a second one from S*Summerdays Cattery in the south of Sweden. Two lovely females with a totally different pedigree compared with the rest of our cats. They provided us, together with our bluetabby male, with some lovely kittens during some years but now is next, and next-next, generation is stepping in.

Lucille is retired and Kapri might have her last litter during 2005. We have a new boy in our cattery, (N) Almighty Scotch Corner, a seal pointed beautiful boy from Norway. We have also kept two seal girls (Piece of Cake and Unique), granddaughters to Kapri but not similar pedigrees anyway and bought a lilac tabby girl from our daughter's cattery, Umber Pearls. We have also, during 2004, kept two small girls from our own breeding, sealpointed Yo-san and bluepointed Zugarbabe. So we are, with hope, going towards new exciting, breeding years.
